Intelligent wandering monitoring with situational analysis
Our innovative CDS wandering monitoring solution (CoSi Demential System) offers significantly more than traditional door alarm systems. Instead of simply reporting every instance of someone being in the exit area, the system reliably detects whether a disoriented person is actually leaving the protected area – or is merely lingering near the exit.
This intelligent distinction significantly reduces false alarms and ensures that care staff are only notified when action is genuinely required. This brings greater peace of mind to daily life whilst simultaneously enhancing residents’ safety.
Another key advantage is the solution’s simple installation: the two-part CDS evaluation unit, the CDS detection unit, is a wireless system that requires no complex structural modifications. Unlike other solutions, where, for example, antennas have to be laid in the floor, here it is sufficient to install an indoor and an outdoor module in the passageway. Both components are simply powered via a two-core cable with 24V – the appropriate power supply is already included in the scope of delivery. This allows the system to be integrated into existing facilities quickly, flexibly and cost-effectively.
A key feature of the solution is its convenient and cost-effective operation for relatives and care staff. Using small, low-cost RFID tags, the wandering monitoring system can be temporarily deactivated if necessary. Compared to alternative systems that use expensive radio transmitters for carers, this approach offers a significant advantage: RFID tags are so inexpensive that they can be issued permanently to relatives and staff. There is no need for them to be returned or for regular functional checks. The tags are assigned to a person’s system once and can be carried around for months or years – for example, on a key ring.
As soon as a disoriented person approaches the exit, the optional CDS-escort-terminal automatically detects them via the associated handheld transmitter. The person’s name is immediately displayed on the clear touchscreen. The carer then simply holds their RFID tag up to the device and selects the desired duration for deactivation – simple, quick and intuitive.
To ensure maximum transparency and security, all periods during which the wander-away monitoring for a specific person is deactivated are documented in the system. During this time, responsibility for the safety of the person being accompanied lies with the person who carried out the deactivation. A corresponding agreement is made when the RFID tags are issued.
Furthermore, the system reliably detects when a previously accompanied person returns to the protected area and automatically restores the monitoring status.
The CDS can be operated either as a standalone system or integrated into existing infrastructures. In standalone mode, alarms are triggered directly via a stationary touch terminal, the CDS-alarm-terminal. Furthermore, interfaces are available through which wandering alarms can be forwarded to external alarm servers or existing light call systems.
If the CDS is used as a module within a comprehensive CLAS (CoSi Location & Alerting System) emergency call solution, the alarm is triggered via the end devices available there – for example, conveniently via the CLAS Caregiver App on the care staff’s smartphone.
The combination of precise event detection, simple installation, flexible integration and practical, cost-effective operation makes this solution a modern and efficient component for the protection and care of people with disorientation.
