CDS-mini – Cost-effective proximity monitoring for greater safety in everyday life

CDS mini flyer2

Under the umbrella term “CDS-mini”, CoSi offers two particularly cost-effective proximity monitoring solutions for people with dementia.

The focus is on early detection when a person with dementia approaches a defined danger zone. To this end, the person concerned wears a FuFi-smart dementia transmitter on their person. As soon as they approach a monitored exit within a pre-set distance, a proximity alarm is automatically triggered. This allows care staff to react and intervene in good time.

CDS-mini comprises two different technical variants, which can be flexibly selected depending on the application scenario:
The first variant is based on an SR-ISM-WLAN gateway operating in so-called proximity mode. This device is typically used as an emergency call receiver and location unit within the CLAS (CoSi Location & Alerting System) emergency call solution but can be easily switched to proximity mode via an integrated web interface. In this configuration, the system reliably detects when a disoriented person enters the monitored area – for example, an exit area. The name of the person in question is then reported to the care staff via existing CLAS end devices, such as the CLAS Caregiver App on a smartphone. Integration can be carried out flexibly via Wi-Fi or a MESH wireless network, enabling even larger areas to be covered efficiently.

Compared to the full-featured CDS system, the range of functions has been deliberately reduced: the system detects when a person approaches an exit but cannot distinguish whether the person is actually leaving the protected area or merely staying in the exit area.

The second variant uses the CoSi CDS proximity unit as a standalone proximity receiver. This device operates independently of CLAS and focuses solely on detecting the approach of a dementia transmitter. Identification of the person is not possible here – it merely reports that a disoriented person is approaching the monitored area. However, it is precisely this reduction in functionality that enables a particularly cost-effective implementation.

The CDS-proximity-unit can be connected via plug & play to an RFID dialler or a SeCom dialler. This allows proximity alarms to be forwarded directly to a SeCom senior emergency call system. Alternatively, the unit also offers interfaces for transmitting the alarm to various light call systems via their auxiliary contacts. In addition, a potential-free contact is available, via which external visual or audible signal transmitters can be directly controlled.

By connecting to an IP-dialler via the SeCom interface, the CDS proximity unit can also be indirectly integrated into a CLAS environment. In this case, alerts can also be sent via the CLAS Caregiver App.

Both variants of the CDS-mini system can be installed easily and flexibly – for example, above or next to a passageway. Commissioning is quick and requires no major structural work, making the solution ideal for retrofitting.

CDS-mini is therefore the ideal solution for facilities wishing to implement reliable and cost-effective proximity monitoring. Through the combination of simple technology, flexible integration and targeted functionality, the system offers a high level of security whilst requiring minimal investment.
